Lake Powell Part 3

It seemed as if we were the only ones ever on the lake, it was a little crazy at times. Especially out in the channel when we wouldn't see any boats. Up Lake Canyon we swam to shore and hiked around exploring for awhile. Rachael collected a bunch of sea shells to bring home.

The last couple of days became quite cloudy and stormy. Rachael had fun displaying her shells.

We were driving up a canyon when a dark heavy storm rolled in the last day we were on the lake. You always hear warnings about flash floods but we had never experienced it until this particular day. It started to rain so hard and heavy we were scrambling to find shelter somewhere. We drove up close to a small cove at the bottom of a cliff but worrying about flood water coming down on us we moved back into the rain.

Sure enough, minutes after the rain started we began to see these beauties all around us. Water falls formed everywhere. I wish I would have counted them at the time but there was way too much going on. (it was hard choosing which pictures to use as I have so many of the different falls)

There were a group of people packing up camp in this cove and had to post pone as one of the water falls came down on their camp. Luckily it looked as if no one was hurt.  As one waterfall ended all of a sudden we saw another huge one form (the middle picture in the collage below) As it came down it landed right in the boat below. Scary! They quickly got out of the way but had mud and water that filled their boat.
That waterfall was heavy and must have come from a long way off.

It was a little concerning at times because we didn't know if it was ever going to let up. We did our best to set up shelter on the boat and stay warm. I was more interested in taking pictures but it was a little hard as we were all crammed into a small space and Joseph didn't want to sit still.

Once the rain died down we traveled out of the canyon to find another location to try and dry off. As we came up another cove we found another beautiful spot with another waterfall.

I can now understand a little more of how dangerous flash floods can be. It was an experience to remember.

The last day never warmed up and we had occasional storms here and there. We went back up Lost Eden and took shelter (with a lot of other boats) in that huge cove for awhile before heading back up to Lake Canyon to finish off the day with more cliff jumping.

Joseph loves his grandpa (he calls him bompa just like Josh did). He chooses to go to him over anyone else.
Look at his happy smile :)
As we got off the lake our last day the sky was beautiful as the sun set in the storm clouds.

Rachael and Josh enjoyed helping Grandpa wipe down the boat each day as we got off the water. It was fun to watch them help out.

We all designed our own tshirts to wear (pictures of ours to follow in another post) but Scott and Shaylee's shirts were so cool. Shaylee is an incredible artist and drew some amazing pictures on their shirts.

My mom took this video and I had to share it. It makes me laugh every time I watch it!
You have to watch it twice, keep your eye on just one of the kids each time.

On one of the earlier warmer days we took some fun pictures together!

Girls will be girls...
